Rich and Poor Countries

After making a statement that I could not live on $1 a day, despite that people in poor countries often have to, and after it being taken the wrong way I got to thinking.
There are many reasons, from my point of view, why this statement is true. $1 in Britain could buy me one packet of crisps, or a couple of apples, or 500g of rice. one of these alone I could not survive for a day on.
I did not mean to sound patronising, and I definately did not mean that I was greedy, and could not survive without my luxury products, because I am not, and I could.
Developing countries often have lower priced goods, and while I am certainly not meaning that that it is easy for them to survive on $1 a day, I am just meaning that with the food that they are able to buy, it is more possible for them to survive on $1 a day, than it is for me.
Please correct me if I am wrong, I would like to hear everyones views on this.

1 DOLLAR A DAY
HEY, I JUST WANTED TO SAY, DID YOU MEAN 1 POUND OR 1 DOLLAR? BECAUSE, 1 DOLLAR IS LESS THEN 1 POUND. LIKE SAY I GO TO THE UK AND TRADE IN DOLLARS FOR POUNDS, I WOULD GET HALF AS MUCH. BUT NO I COULD NOT LIVE ON 1 DOLLAR A DAY WHERE I LIVE NOW, BUT COULD IN LIKE CAMBODIA, WHERE 1 DOLLAR EQUALS LIKE 4,000 RIELS

1 dollar a day
i meant one dollar, the equivalent here is about 50p, and there is no way I could survive on it. Thanks for replying, i was kinda worried that i might just be being really selfish and materialistic.
